Green Roof 101, Saturday, January 8th
This introductory training course on green roof infrastructure design presents many of the tools and techniques needed to meet your green roof project objectives on schedule, to specification, and within budget.
What You Will Learn:
Determine major functions and components of a green roof;
Describe characteristics and assess various advantages of different green roof systems;
Utilize an integrated design process in your project for maximum benefit;
Evaluate the major market drivers encouraging the green roof industry in North America;
Obtain maximum points by integrating a green roof into the US Green Building Council LEED Accreditation point system.
Green Roof 201, Sunday, January 9th
This course provides an in-depth discussion of the multitude of implementation issues. From the first client meeting through scheduling, insurance and permit issues, site analysis, construction considerations, sub contracting, building a qualified project team, post construction maintenance and more - Green Roof Implementation 201 has it all!
What You Will Learn:
Essential qualifications for your project team
Critical questions you need to ask your client (matching their ecological requirements to design practicalities)
Identifying building code/municipal permit issues
Liability issues (including insurance, waivers, guarantees etc.)
Design and implementation issues for new and retrofit buildings (including structural loading concerns, drainage, erosion control, storm water retention, etc.)
Sub contracting and scheduling concerns
Green Roof 401, Monday, January 10th
This course will provide participants with an overview of plants and growing medium design considerations and maintenance for green roof assemblies. It establishes design and implementation best management practices for plants and growing medium in green roofs.
What You Will Learn:
Understand the principles of plant physiology and soil sciences as they apply to green roofs;
Identify appropriate applications of various plant and growing material for your green roof project;
Understand the technical requirements for growing medium and plant life ; and,
Understand the potential implementation issues related to plant care and growing medium contamination.
Each all-day class costs only $299 (a special, discounted rate for the National Green Centre). Each class requires a minimum number of participants in order to occur.
