Tree Farm Manager-Loma Vista Nursery
Qualifications
- Degree in horticulture or related field
- Prior industry related work experience
- Must have or be willing to obtain Chemical Applicators license
- Excellent computer skills including excel, word, and outlook
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate is Spanish is a plus+
- Valid Drivers License
- Supervise and personally perform crop maintenance including pruning, spraying, and planting, watering and testing of crops
- Coordinate and supervise all aspects of the digging of trees at harvest time.
- Keep an accurate inventory
- Evaluate with field trials different fertilizers and growing techniques to improve crop
- Maintain facilities located at the tree farms
- Assists in hiring workers and directs supervisors and workers, discharges, transfers, and promotes workers, enforces safety regulations, and interprets policies.
- Directs and coordinates worker activities, such as planting, irrigation, chemical application, harvesting, grading, payroll, and record keeping
- Prepares financial and operational reports
- Determines procedural changes in planting, grading, storage, and shipment for greater efficiency and accuracy
- Inspects fields to determine maturity dates of crops or to estimate potential crop damage from weather
- Selects and purchases, plant nutrients, disease control chemicals, fertilizer
- Prepare and maintain planting plan for containers and B&B trees
- Track labor costs by inputs
- Work within budgetary parameters
